Kenyan Woman Who Got Married at 22 Laments Lonely Marriage as Hubby is Emotionally Distant

A Kenyan woman who got married young has opened up about her struggles with an emotionally distant husband.  In a post shared anonymously with counsellor Connie Muuru, the distressed wife sought advice on how to navigate her situation. She admitted that marrying at 22 may not have been the best decision, but she was deeply in love then.

However, her marriage has not turned out as she expected, as her husband frequently stays out late with his friends. "He stays out with his boys and gets home past 2 am. Even when he comes home early, it's usually around midnight," she lamented. When he is home, he is either glued to his phone, particularly TikTok, or asleep until the late afternoon. As soon as the man wakes up, he heads out again to meet his friends, a behaviour that has affected her emotionally.

"I have tried talking to him several times about how that makes me feel; it's not working," she shared. Now, the young mother of a 10-month-old daughter is considering detaching herself from the relationship and planning her exit. However, she is unsure if leaving is right, especially with a young child involved. With the added responsibility of caring for a baby, her dilemma is one many women may relate to. She is weighing the difficult decision between staying for the family's sake or leaving for personal well-being.

"I don't know if it's the right thing to do though," she wrote, seeking advice from those who may have been in a similar situation. The young woman hopes to gain clarity on whether detaching and planning an exit are the best options for her and her daughter. Her story has resonated with many, highlighting young marriages' challenges when emotional connection and communication break down.
