Kenya bids farewell to South Sudan Ambassador, Ruto urges AU reforms

 

Kenya has bid farewell to the outgoing South Sudan Ambassador to Kenya, Chol M. U. Ajongo, whose tenure in the country has come to an end.

During a farewell event at State House, Nairobi, President William Ruto commended the ambassador for his dedication and the strong ties between Kenya and South Sudan during his service.

President Ruto emphasized that Kenya would continue to work closely with South Sudan and other allies in the Horn of Africa to combat terrorism and organized crime.

He reiterated Kenya’s commitment to fostering peace and stability in the region, ensuring the success of all involved nations.

In a separate event at State House, Nairobi, President Ruto met with the President of the Pan-African Parliament, Zephaniah Charumbira, and other officials to discuss the future of the African Union (AU).

He stressed the need for institutional reforms within the AU to better serve its 55 member states.

Ruto highlighted that the AU Commission should be given more decision-making authority, while the Pan-African Parliament should be granted oversight and legislative powers over the Commission.

The meeting underscored Kenya’s commitment to strengthening continental cooperation and empowering African institutions to address the challenges faced by the region, including security and governance.

Both events at State House showcased Kenya’s leadership in promoting regional stability and advocating for a stronger, more effective African Union.
