Source: Facebook Allan Kilavuka, KQ's Group MD and CEO, stated that the acquisition will increase efficiency and revenue.  "We plan to increase the number of our aircraft to 55 fleets in the next five years from the current fleet that we have of 42 aircraft," Kilavuka said, as reported by Capital FM. Citizen TV reported that the airline plans to increase travel destinations from 48 to 60. How many freighters does KQ have?

 The airline received a Boeing 737-800 freighter in April 2024, increasing the number of freighters in its fleet to four. This increase allows the airline to provide clients and partners with additional cargo capacity on its global network, particularly in the Middle East, Asia, and Africa. Additionally, cargo freighters are thought to be a means of seizing chances presented by the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) to stimulate trade inside and outside Africa. What was KQ's profit? Kenya Airways reported a profit after tax of KSh 513 million for the half-year ending June 2024, a major turnaround from a KSh 23.7 billion loss during the same period in 2023.

 This marked the airline's first profitable half-year results in a decade, with the last recorded profit being KSh 384 million in 2014. CEO Allan Kilavuka attributed the profitability to growth in the cargo sector, stabilisation of the Kenya shilling, and increased overall traffic.
