Ruth Chepng'etich's third win at the Chicago Marathon is set to be her most memorable one yet after she set a new world record on October 13. Not only did Chepng'etich break the world record, but she absolutely shattered the previous record held by Tigist Assefa. Ruth Chepng'etich celebrates after setting the new world record in the women's marathon on October 13, 2024.  Chepng'etich ran a time of 2:09:57, almost two minutes quicker than Assefa's 2:11:53. She also drastically improved her personal best, which previously stood at 2:14:18. She crossed the line a whooping eight minutes before Sutume Kebede came through for second place in 2:17:32. 

Kenya's Irine Cheptai was third with a time of 2:17:52. How much Ruth Chepng'etuch will get after setting new record Chepng'etich is now set for a handsome paycheck thanks to the lucrative prizes on offer in Chicago, as captured by NBC Chicago. The winners of the races will receive 100,000 USD (approximately 12.8 million Kenya shillings) On top of that, the 30-year-old is entitled to a further 50,000 USD for setting a new course record. In total, she will take home approximately 19.3 million Kenya shillings.
