Homa Bay: Mama Ida Odinga Ordained as Canon by Anglican Church of Kenya

 

Mama Betty Ida Odinga, wife of Raila Odinga, was awarded the honorary title of canon by the Anglican Church of Kenya in the Diocese of South Nyanza, Homa Bay. Mama Ida Odinga during her ordination as a canon at Christ the Healer Cathedral in Homa Bay county. The special ordination ceremony took place at Christ the Healer Cathedral on Sunday, October 20. Why was Mama Ida awarded canon title? Mombasa governor Abdulswamad Nassir congratulated Mama Ida, praising her for her well-deserved recognition due to her dedication to service, leadership, and faith. 

 "Congratulations to Dr. Ida Betty Odinga on her episcopal appointment as Honorary Canon of the Anglican Church of Kenya! This is a well-deserved recognition of your commitment to service, leadership, and faith. May you continue to inspire and uplift many in this new role. Blessings on this remarkable journey!" stated the governor. Homa Bay governor Gladys Wanga, who also attended the event, celebrated her as the "newest canon in town" and offered her heartfelt congratulations. How did Kenyans react to Mama Ida's ordination?

 Simeon Ajwang asked: "Mama Ida Odinga comes from the Diocese of Bondo under Bishop prof David Godia. How does the ordination service take place in Homa Bay which is in South Nyanza diocese under Bishop Simon Onyango?"  Lilian Wanjala stated: "Lay canon is given to people who stand with the work of God from their own pockets and are good at mobilising. Congratulations." Martin Thuo reacted: "Are you sure all rules were followed to the letter in this ordination? Just wondering innocently. 

I believe it's a journey to reach that stage." Antony Ngugi observed: "Canon is the highest title of honour given to people who have done something great to the diocese or great dedication to the church." Peter Nganga said: "Congratulations as you embark on a noble calling. The servanthood of God is not in vain at all."
