eTIMS Application: KRA Reports 15.3% Increase in VAT Collections

The Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) has surpassed its Value Added Tax (VAT) collections following the implementation of eTIMS (electronic Tax Invoice Management System). KRA commissioner of domestic taxes Rispah Simiyu revealed that in the 2023/2024 financial year, the taxman recorded a growth of 15.3% in VAT revenue compared to 13.4% reported during a similar period in the last financial year.  During the period under review, KRA collected KSh 314.157 billion from VAT, up from KSh 307.823 billion, surpassing the target by KSh 6.334 billion. 

Simiyu explained that the introduction of eTIMS expanded the tax base, which in turn increased VAT collections. "KRA assures taxpayers that we are addressing the challenges affecting eTIMS implementation and online service uptake to make the system more user-friendly and responsive to customer needs," she said as quoted by My Gov. Why KRA has been engaging Kenyans The government's principal revenue collector was eager to monitor all documented transactions to improve the visibility of the VAT claims made by the relevant businesses. Aiming to widen the tax net, the tax authority has been engaging businessmen and women countrywide. KRA noted negotiations were ongoing to ensure that all Kenyans pay taxes.
