Detectives from Kilimani have arrested three suspects in connection with a daring burglary that occurred in Westlands, Nairobi, where electronic items, cash, and valuables worth thousands of dollars were stolen.
The suspects, Lenah Khamatioli (28), Ian Kavaya (28), and Peninah Mutola (32), were apprehended from their hideout in Kawangware after a month-long manhunt.
According to the DCI, the incident took place on September 24, 2024, when a South Sudanese national, who owns the targeted home on Rahpta Road in Westlands, returned to find her house girl missing, along with USD 24,500, an iPhone 15, a Samsung Z Flip, and various pieces of jewellery.
The homeowner immediately reported the theft to the DCI Kilimani, sparking an investigation that involved forensic tracing and intelligence gathering.
After weeks of meticulous investigations, detectives tracked down the three suspects, who were found in possession of several newly acquired items believed to be proceeds of the crime.
Among the seized items were: A Boxer motorcycle (Reg No. KMGN 840N), a 55-inch Vitron TV, a Hanmac microwave, an HP laptop, an NNix cooker oven, a 6kg Pro gas cylinder, a five-sitter sofa, a mattress, two watches, and three brand-new Samsung A50 phones
Additionally, an agreement for the purchase of a parcel of land valued at Ksh 423,000 in Kapkangani, Nandi County, was confiscated, pointing to potential property investment using the stolen funds.
The suspects are currently in police custody as detectives continue their search for more accomplices and any remaining stolen items.
This successful arrest is a significant step in combating crime in Nairobi, and authorities urge residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities in their neighbourhoods.
