A Kahawa West man has opened up on the chilling moment he narrowly escaped death after a building collapsed while he was heading out of his house. A Kahawa West man narrated his narrow escape after a building collapsed. The seven-story building collapsed on Sunday, October 20, before the very eyes of the residents who filmed the horrific moment of the tumble.
Speaking to Paxson TV, Newton, who lives adjacent to the ill-fated building, said he was closing his door when the building collapsed, bringing down part of his apartment. He recalled that darkness suddenly covered the vicinity as the building came down, leaving him a split second to run for his dear life.
“I was closing the door when suddenly the rubble started falling on me. I ran to the corner to save my life, but I could hardly see anything. Luckily, I managed to escape it safely,” he narrated. Newton, who had dust all over his face, said he had to return to the fallen rubble to rescue a stranded neighbour.
“I went back and found him trapped, and I rescued him with the help of others. The collapsed building came down with a part of our building,” he narrated. He said that tenants in the building had been asked to move out days before the collapse, adding that some constructors were present at the time of the incident.
