In a shocking twist, the seasoned scriptwriter, producer, and actor YY has revealed that contrary to what the general public believed he and his ex-girlfriend, award-winning actress and digital content creator Marya Okoth were not legally married.
YY interestingly noted that despite not having a wedding certificate, they regarded themselves as husband and wife throughout the years they had been together and, “had a perfect marriage,” which was blessed with a healthy baby girl now aged 3 years.
“Let me put this straight and maintain some respect… in as much as we didn’t get married legally, we respected each other. It’s just the documents that we didn’t have, but we treated each other as husband and wife.
The papers are just a formality,” the veteran comedian said during a phone interview with Ankali Ray.
He further insisted that his past relationship wasn’t a come-we-stay marriage, arguing him and his baby mama evidently had all the hallmarks of a marriage minus the legal paperwork. “I don’t want people going around disrespecting what Marya and I had saying it was a come-we-stay marriage. No, it was not,” YY added.
On why he was quick to launch his current girlfriend online barely 3 months after his baby mama had announced their split online citing “unavoidable circumstances,” the film producer argued his part revealed he’d already made peace with the past and had healed therefore there wasn’t any reason as to why he shouldn’t seek love again.
“I have no bad motives… People are saying I’m doing this to hurt the other person, but that is not the goal. I am fairly intelligent. I am the kind of person who works well when I have a place to run to and someone cheering me on. As men, we want moral support and presence.
Many people take a long time to move forward because they delay their grieving period. I have gone through the whole cycle. I felt the pain and never pretended about it,” the comedian shared.
