Former Health Cabinet Secretary Susan Nakhumicha

Former Health Cabinet Secretary Susan Nakhumicha has opened up about her life after being relieved of her duties in the Cabinet. Susan Nakhumicha detailed having to adapt to life after she was axed from the Cabinet.  The former CS shared the emotional challenges she has faced since leaving office following anti-government protests that rocked the country. During the burial of Kukhu Rodah Lusaka, the mother of Bungoma governor Ken Lusaka, on Friday, October 18, Nakhumicha made a heartfelt request to the Archbishop of The Anglican Church of Kenya, Jackson Ole Sapit.

The former CS asked the Bishop to continue having her in his prayers for the country and its citizens. Nakhumicha, who was once at the forefront of Kenya’s health sector, reflected on the stark transition from holding a prestigious government position to living as an ordinary citizen. She admitted that the change had not been easy, adding that while life had been kind to her, she continues to seek God’s blessings. “Bishop, please pray for me. You know, it’s not easy having been a minister and then all of a sudden you’re just Nakhumicha. You know my name is unique when you say “Nakhumicha,” people immediately think of the Health Minister,” she told the mourners.  How has the transition been for Nakhumicha

The former CS highlighted how the sudden shift in status can be overwhelming for anyone, stressing the importance of prayer during such times. Despite the challenges, Nakhumicha remained optimistic, noting that she had received many blessings and was hopeful for more. “But I ask that you continue to pray for me. I see that God has blessed me with good things, and I’m also hopeful for more blessings,” she added during her speech at the burial ceremony. When was Susan Nakhumicha sacked?

In July, President William Ruto dismissed all Cabinet secretaries, including Nakhumicha, who held the Ministry of Health docket. Ruto said he made the move after listening to the issues raised by Kenyans, mainly consisting of the youth. The sacking came after a series of anti-government protests over the introduction of taxes under the Finance Bill 2024.
