Makueni senator Dan Maanzo has shared details regarding Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s final moments before he disappeared from the Senate after reportedly falling ill. Makueni senator Dan Maanzo noted that the deputy president appeared quite tired during his second day of trial in the Senate. Rigathi Gachagua’s last moments before falling ill Speaking to Citizen TV, Maanzo mentioned that Gachagua appeared fatigued just before the Senate broke for lunch. He also mentioned that he had lunch at his office with several senators from the Mt. Kenya region who confirmed that Gachagua was doing well.
“We were expecting him, including his lawyers. But all of a sudden we got a report from his lawyer that he had taken ill at his office and he was rushed to the hospital,” Maanzo said. What happens if Gachagua fails to return to Senate? When asked what the Senate would do if he doesn’t show up at 5pm as instructed by the Senate speaker, Maanzo said that as long as Gachagua is in the hospital, he will be given a fair opportunity to be heard under the constitution. “We will wait for the judgement of the speaker, if it is in the opinion of the speaker that we proceed then that will have its own place in law,” Maanzo added. As earlier reported, one of Gachagua’s lawyers, Paul Muite, said that Gachagua has been admitted to The Karen Hospital. Speaking in the Senate on Thursday, October 17, Muite disclosed that he had managed to speak with the doctors attending to the deputy president. Muite said Gachagua is currently hospitalised after experiencing severe chest pains. The senior counsel also disclosed that Gachagua’s doctors had recommended he take complete rest for a period of time.
