Government Senior Economic Advisor Moses Kuria has appealed to the Agikuyu community to rally behind Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki. Kindiki is widely touted to be nominated for the Deputy President position following the Senate’s decision to uphold former DP Rigathi Gachagua’s impeachment In a post shared on X on Thursday, October 17, Kuria stated that it is time the community supported a leader from Mt Kenya East. The outspoken politician, in what can be considered a reference to Kindiki, said they would be on the right side of history if they supported a leader from Meru and Embu.
“My beloved House of Mumbi. Time has come for us to complete the debt paying season by paying our domestic debt through supporting for our Meru and Embu siblings to lead us. History will judge us right Take it fron your economist son,” he wrote. Has Mt Kenya paid its political debt Kuria also touched on the issue of Mt Kenya’s political debt, which had been a popular talking point during the 2022 General Election. He reminded the community that they had repaid one significant political debt by voting overwhelmingly for President William Ruto, a non-Mt Kenya candidate, in the election.
“In 2022 we paid external debts by voting for a non Mt Kenya candidate,” Kuria stated. Leaders in Mount Kenya had long used the narrative of a political debt to galvanize support for candidates from outside the region, particularly Ruto, whose alliance with Uhuru saw him ride on the promise of reciprocity in 2022.
