Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua

Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has cautioned Mt Kenya leaders to be careful when implementing instructions from leaders from other regions.

In a TikTok video that has surfaced, Gachagua urged them “not to be stupid”.

Turning to drive his point home, he borrowed from the fable of the rabbit and the hyena, Gachagua narrated how the former tricked the latter into killing his wife.

He told of how the rabbit, after saying they should kill their wives, resulting into hitting a drum pretending it was his wife.

When the hyena’s wife dies, he visits the rabbit only to find him being served tea and romanticised by his very alive wife.

Gachagua went on to state that it is okay that leaders from other political divides joined the Cabinet, noting that Kenya is big enough and it belongs to all her citizens.

The vocal leader said he sleeps with one eye open to ensure the Mt Kenya region is not disadvantaged.

He noted that it is good to love others, however warned that they are to be loved cleverly.

The DP said even though people think he is stupid, that is not the case.

He said a time is coming when he will speak, and people will listen.

Gachagua told the elected leaders from the Mt Kenya region to love those who elected them and to always remember them.

The DP’s job is hanging by a string after the National Assembly successfully impeached him on Tuesday, October 8, with 281 MPs voting in favour, 44 against and only one abstaining.

Gachagua was impeached on 11 grounds of gross violation of the constitution, bullying Kemsa officials, and ethnic discrimination.

It means Gachagua has become the first Kenyan deputy president to be impeached by the National Assembly.

The Senate will on Wednesday and Thursday decide if he gets ousted.

To survive the impeachment, Gachagua will have to get 23 votes from the Senate.

In the event a member is absent during the session or abstains from voting, that will work in the DP’s favour.
