The streets of Nairobi are usually one big character development class about to happen and creative maestro, Njugush learned this lesson the hard way.

Njugush, during a recent sit down with his wife Celestine Ndinda, on their budding podcast narrated how he got conned and nearly mugged as well by the infamous ‘Pata Potea‘ street con artists.

According to the father of 2 once he realized what had happened he was overcome with grief and burst into tears right there, however, he couldn’t lick his wounds for long as he had to make a run for his dear life before he lost more valuables to the crooks.

“I was walking around St Peters, and I saw something falling in front of me. I heard someone saying, ‘Pick that for him’ so I picked it up and gave it to the old man who’d made the request. He gave me Sh.200 as a token of appreciation before inviting me to join them.

He told me, ‘There is a game we are playing here. You can play it and earn some more.’ They added Sh.200 while playing the game. Now I had Sh.400,” the veteran actor and comedian humorously narrated detailing that’s how he got pulled into the sneaky ruse.

Njugush went on to win a total of Sh.800 from the game which had him floating high in the clouds. He fell for the game, hook, line and sinker. And that’s when they started toying with him.

Albeit a little weary and ready to take his winnings and dip, one of the agents, an Akorino lady, kept making young Njugush doubt himself whenever he wanted to quit the game. Seeing he was fully in it, the other team took over arguing the now stand up comedian had had too many chances.

“They then informed me it was time for me to leave so others could get a chance to play, and I was like, ‘why are you removing me?’ I told him I’m not going away. So he told me to give him Sh.400 which I gave to them. So now I had Sh.1200 since I won Sh.800.

They told me it was my last time to play, and I saw I was winning, heading to Sh. 5,000. I don’t know how I got that Sh.1200. The voice inside me told me to head home, but I had won Sh.1,600.

When I was going home, they asked me if I had Sh.1,000, and they would triple it. I placed my 1,000 there to get to Sh.4,000. Now it was Sh.2,600. They mixed things up, and when they opened the container, there was nothing.” According to the father of 2 he literally started sobbing right there as he had lost his own cash, Sh.1000 and his alleged winnings totalling Sh.2600. He was devastated.

Just as he was trying to comprehend what had just happened he heard one of  the agents, the lady who kept on urging him not to quit the game, say, “guys look at the shoes he’s wearing. It’s a nice pair, isn’t it?'” And that’s when he knew things were about to get worse.

“I had to run for my life yelling, ‘do you know my dad is a police officer?’” The content creator humorously added leaving his wife in stitches.
