A notice for Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s impeachment was presented to the National Assembly on Tuesday, October 1.  A total of 291 MPs signed the motion in support of his ouster, including a Member of Parliament from Mathira constituency, Gachagua’s home area. What did Gachagua say about Ndindi Nyoro? Before the presentation of the motion, Gachagua praised Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro, disclosing their unknown relationship.

He described Nyoro as a disciplined and capable leader who remained above the fray in the debate. “He is one of our leaders who I have mentored and will continue to mentor. He is a very bright young man. That is why you have not heard him hurling abuses. He is very respectful and carries himself as a leader because he knows what he is doing. He has a future and is a very good friend of mine,” said Gachagua. Gachagua also revealed that Nyoro sheltered him when former president Uhuru Kenyatta’s administration was pursuing him.

“Even when I used to be arrested every Friday during the previous regime, I used to go and hide in his home and his wife Sophia prepared food for me,” he disclosed. The MP has not commented on his decision to withhold support for the impeachment of the deputy president. However, just a few months ago, Nyoro was considered a potential kingpin for Mt. Kenya, with many MPs favouring him over Gachagua.
