Winnie Bwire: Video of Actress Saying She Would Not Die of Cancer Resurfaces

Winnie Bwire was in Turkey with her mother.

Kenyans were plunged into mourning following the death of Winnie Bwire, better known as Dida for her role in the Sultana TV show.  What did Winnie Bwire say on Citizen TV? Bwire's family confirmed that she succumbed to cancer on Thursday, September 5, 2024, while undergoing treatment in Turkey. Citizen TV paid a heartfelt tribute to Bwire during their 7pm bulletin.  “When you plan one thing, God plans differently. She's been entertaining and educating us and performed her roles passionately. The show performed well.

However, she battled cancer. We helped her with prayers and finances but she has sadly passed away," Rashid Abdalla said. Rashid said that Bwire’s family will announce the burial plans before sharing a video of her last appearance on Citizen TV. The clip showed Bwire expressing confidence that she would beat cancer. The video showed her in a hospital ward in Turkey alongside her mother. “I am still so young, and it will not kill me. I am determined, and that’s why I came to Turkey. The cost implication is higher than back in Kenya.

But how much does a human life cost?” Sheila Nanjala, a diehard Sultana fan, said that the Kenyan film industry had lost a gem. “She convincingly played her role in the TV show, and it breaks my heart that she’s no more,” she told TUKO.co.ke. The video prompted an outpouring of grief, with Kenyans writing: Celestinegachuhi: “Rest well, mama.” hiv_positive_living1: “The cancer prevalence rate in Kenya is very high. We must start asking ourselves why.” sharon_comfort: “Saddest thing I have seen on the internet today.” nana_njebiu: "Oh no. I was rooting for you. R.IP Winnie." Ennovybabe: “Oh no, this is sad and painful. She fought a good fight and finished the race.”
