WHO dispatches medical supplies worth Ksh9.7M to counties ahead of short rains

The World Health Organization (WHO) has dispatched 10 tonnes of emergency medical supplies and commodities to five counties as the country braces for the upcoming short rains.

The supplies, valued at approximately Ksh 9.7 million, aim to enhance the counties’ capacity to manage potential health crises triggered by the rains.

The five counties benefiting from the intervention include Kilifi, Homa Bay, Mandera, Turkana, and Kajiado.

According to WHO, the supplies are expected to serve 164,600 people in areas prone to outbreaks of waterborne diseases.

The Kenya Meteorological Department (Met) has warned of expected short rains in various parts of the country from October to December.

According to the forecast, the short rains are likely to begin between the third and fourth weeks of October in Central Kenya counties as well as in Nairobi.

Consequently, water levels in the Rift Valley lakes are expected to remain high, potentially causing flooding in surrounding areas.
