Rongai Woman Who Lost Hubby, Toddler in Nithi Bridge Crash Speaks: "Mimi Ni Mja Mzito"

Rongai - Days after the horrible Nithi Bridge that claimed 12 lives, families continue to mourn the death of their kin.  A woman has tearfully opened up on the massive loss following the accident along the Meru-Embu road. How old was Kamene's son? Lucy Kamene lost two family members who died in the unfortunate and tragic accident that broke Kenyans' hearts. Speaking to TUKO.co.ke, Kamene emotionally disclosed her husband and child were among the victims in the accident. "My husband and two-year-old son's lives were snatched away. They were returning from the occasion in Meru. 

My husband had taken his friend to visit his lover's parents. He would later take our son to visit the grandfather before making their way back home. He had insisted on going with our son because of my pregnancy state. I am due in a few days," she painfully said. What was last conversation between Kamene and husband? Kamene, whose husband was the sole breadwinner, said she talked to him at 6 pm that evening as he prepared to return home in Ongata Rongai. She tried to reach him at 7 pm, but his phone was not going through, and she thought his phone battery had died. "Hours went by, and he did not reach out. 

I tried to call his phone, but there was no answer. After several attempts to contact him without any success, I slept. At around 5 am, I called a woman who had gone to the event with him. She told me my husband and son were involved in an accident but were recuperating at the hospital. She had not returned with them," she recalled.Why wasn't Kamene told of husband, son's death? Kamene prepared herself to go to the hospital to visit her husband and son, not knowing the whole story. She decided to visit her mum before heading to the hospital, and her mother broke the sad news to her. 

"The reason no one told me was because they feared for my unborn child had I known the truth, and since I was alone in the house, they were scared something bad could happen. I was so pained and felt hollow," she cried. They asked the government to intervene on the road and ensure no more lives were lost on the black spot. After the accident, Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua confirmed the government's commitment to improving Nithi Bridge, as fatalities in the area were increasing.
