Nairobi Philanthropist Launches Campaign to Provide Inhalers to Asthma Patients in Need

Kevin Otiende, a survivor of childhood asthma, has announced a heartwarming initiative to support individuals with the same condition. Nairobi Philanthropist Launches Campaign to Provide Inhalers to Asthma Patients in Need  The idea is to help those battling asthma who cannot afford the necessary medical equipment. Otiende's struggles with asthma Drawing from his personal experiences of living with the condition, Otiende recalls the desperate moments his family faced. He recalled the countless times they rushed him to the local dispensary at night to get the only medicine they could afford at the time—Franol tablets.

“I would wake up at 2 am on my mother’s back as she and my brothers rushed me to the dispensary,” Otiende said, sharing his childhood memories. He explained that once his chest blocked, only Franol would save him, and it depended entirely on how fast Mother would act in the dead of the night." Otiende's campaign to help the needy Otiende described how his family often spoke of an inhaler—a quicker, more efficient solution that could have saved him the long waits and intense worry. However, it remained out of reach for many families like his due to the prohibitive cost.

Now, Otiende is turning his past struggles into action by launching a campaign to buy and distribute thousands of inhalers to those in need.  What drives Otiende to support asthmatics? While he considers himself fortunate to have outgrown asthma, he hasn’t forgotten the hardship that comes with managing the condition, especially for those from low-income backgrounds. "I have decided to take up this cause as someone who was born with asthma," Otiende declared. The campaign aims to reach people battling asthma who lack the financial resources to afford an inhaler. Otiende is also accepting donations from individuals who have inhalers to spare or wish to contribute in any way. “If you know someone battling asthma and needs this but can’t afford it, I have a plan. Also, if you have and would like to donate, join me in this cause,” he urged.
