Kenyan celebs who cancelled their weddings and engagement

people say it is better to have a broken relationship than a broken marriage.

Below are celebrities whose weddings and engagements were canceled.

Gospel artist Edith Wairimu

She revealed her wedding was canceled a few weeks before D-Day.

She was speaking in an interview with Jeff Kuria.

"I was in the process of getting married.

My wedding was canceled on January 13th,2023.

That is what led to a dark season in my life. I stayed indoors for 10 months without leaving.

It did not make sense to me."

Was it her fault, his fault, or the church's fault?

'Just know it was canceled.

I started dating him at age 25, we parted ways at age 30, five years later.

The relationship was on and off. The last one was the final blow.

The breakup inspired her song 'Nitasimama.'"

2. Sheila mwanyigha

In  a past interview with Milele FM ,Sheila revealed she had been engaged thrice.

“I am not yet married, I’ve been engaged several times. About 3 times,” she revealed on Milele FM.

The former radio host further added.

“The first, I didn’t think he was the right person for me. The 2nd time my dad died and I wasn’t ready to leave Kenya and relocate to Europe. It was 6 months before the wedding. The 3rd time I said no. You don’t marry a person you can live with, marry someone you can’t live without. I never want to settle. If you don’t love someone as much as they love you, you can’t marry that one person. You should marry someone you can’t live without,” she added.

In 2024, JLo filled for divorce.

4. Grace Ekirapa

Back in April 2018, Grace canceled her wedding because she believed her then-fiance, was a rebound.

Speaking on Chat Spot, Grace said,

“In 2017 I went through a rough break-up after a relationship I was in for four years leading to marriage did not work out."

Adding,

"That same year I got into another relationship and I was heading to marriage, 2018, I got engaged in February, in March I did my traditional wedding and I was to get married on my birthday which is April 27."

Days to the wedding Grace realised she was not in love with the groom. He was a rebound after her heart was broken.

“I realised I was making a huge mistake I wasn’t going to get into something I hadn’t thought through. I knew it wasn’t God’s idea for me, I was going get into something and hurt someone who didn’t need to be hurt."

Grace explained,

"The guys was in love, he was my friend but we were not good as a married couple because I had been hurt and I jumped into something, it was a rebound out of pain and I was rebelling to God, ‘I had kept myself all these years and I didn’t happen, so, I’m still gonna go and get married. I wanted to prove to people I can get married."

She continued,

"I had 400 people at my traditional wedding, a week after I had a conversation with God. I was like, I can lie to everybody but I can’t lie to myself of you. I took a break for two days and I went to pray and asked God to show me two things, to give me so much love that I would go knowing this is it or the courage to break up.”

Grace revealed that after she canceled the wedding people attacked her badly.

“I came back and I called him and I broke it off and hell broke loose. I got backlash from everyone, I was called all kinds of names, my social media was blowing up. People did not understand. They had an opinion. If God knew that other people's opinions were going to matter he would create us with a blank piece of paper and pen on our backs. So that everywhere you go, if you have an opinion you can write it."

Ekirapa later met actor Pascal Tokodi with whom she had a daughter.

Word on the street is that the couple is no longer together, but neither Grace nor Tokodi has ever confirmed the alleged divorce.

5. Grace Mwai

Gospel artist Grace Mwai broke her relationship days to her traditional wedding.

"I got into another relationship but it did not work out as well. I got betrayed. I thought this guy would marry me, little did I know there was someone else in the picture.

We were almost going home for the introductions and ruracio' before the white wedding, I was looking forward to that."

The artiste says that before she made what would have been the mistake of her life, God exposed the man who would have been her husband.

"As I was seeking God he revealed the things that were hidden, there was another woman. I decided to leave the relationship because I couldn't imagine us being two. I told him I couldn't do the relationship anymore.

He went and got married. That hurt me because I had grown up in so many ways. I had seen a future with the relationship, plus I gave it my best. It broke my heart and it took me time to heal. It's OK to leave a relationship until you find the right person."

Just when you think Grace had been given proper character development she adds.

"After healing from the heartbreak I met someone who had been a friend and he asked me to be his girlfriend and I agreed. We planned on getting married but something happened and I took a different route, it wasn't easy for me. The heavens spoke and it did not approve of the relationship."

Adding,

"That was the hardest thing in my life when the heavens spoke something I did not expect. I felt the heavens had spoken too late. I felt wounded and felt like I did not deserve it. It broke my heart big time because it was something beyond my control. It was a great test for me."

She is currently married to former Tahidi High actor and youtuber Hiram Maina.

6. Carol Mwaura

In 2016, Kenyan actress Carol Mwaura was to walk down the aisle.

But that was never to be after she called off the wedding last minute.

This was after she found out her husbad to be was cheating on her.

Sharing her experience with Jeff Kuria, Carol says this is not the first time her now ex-partner had cheated in her.

"I called off my wedding plans because of the infidelity.

This was a few days to the wedding. It was not the first time he had cheated on me and I was really hurt.

My four years were wasted.”

Shocking as it may sound, Carol's ex was a Christian who had told her they should wait till their wedding day for them to Twa Twa.

Unknown to Carol, he was busy resting his rod in other wome's 'garage'.

“I was still healing from the heartbreak for two years. I was still waiting for the wedding day and we could not even be intimate. He was a church man and he suggested we wait until the wedding,” she said.

Carol explained that she would rather have a broken relationship than a broken marriage.

“I already had a baby with another man who refused to take care of the baby, then this man of God wasted my four years, I was very hurt because he was like my first love since I did not date my first baby daddy,” she said.
