48 Killed as Fuel Tanker Explodes after Colliding with Truck Ferrying Cattles Dealers on Highway

Which road did the Nigerian fuel tanker accident happen The Sunday, September 8 accident happened after a fuel tanker exploded following a collation with a truck along the Lapai-Agaie Road, about 2 kilometres from the Dendo community.

 According to the State Emergency Management Agency, the fuel truck collided head-on with a truck ferrying passengers suspected to be cattle dealers. The officials said several other vehicles, including a crane and a pickup truck, were also involved in the grisly accident. Eyewitness accounts said the collision was so severe that it resulted in a huge fire outbreak. Witnesses said the inferno rapidly spread to nearby properties, causing the destruction of the affected properties and leaving trails of devastation. 

The Governor of Niger State, Mohammed Umar Bago, expressed sadness over the loss of 48 persons and an undisclosed number of cattle in the tanker explosion. Officials said most of the victims were burnt beyond recognition, making it difficult for proper identification by the rescuers. Over 50 cows were also burnt beyond recognition following the crash.
