The firm said the Starlink Mini package provides high-speed internet from KSh 1,300 per month.  “Starlink Mini is now live across Kenya! High-speed internet from KSh 1,300 per month,” read the alert on the Starlink website. In June 2024, a section of Kenyans reached out to the techpreneur via X, his social media platform, urging him to give another offer following an internet outage from broadband providers.

Musk assured Kenyans of a new package dubbed Starlink Mini, saying it will be rolled out before the end of the year. Has Starlink sparked completion in Kenya? Kenya’s President William Ruto backed the entrance of the American billionaire’s satellite internet service into the Kenyan market. Speaking during his tour of the United States (US) on Tuesday, September 24, Ruto confirmed he gave the green light for the SpaceX subsidiary to operate in Kenya.  Ruto said Starlink’s competition with Safaricom and other internet service providers would ensure Kenyans get quality services. He called upon local internet service providers, including Safaricom and Airtel Kenya, to embrace competition and improve their services to Kenyans.

While responding to Ruto’s remarks, Musk expressed satisfaction with the significant impact that the satellite internet service provider has had in Kenya. Starlink entered the Kenyan market in July 2023 and has since given local internet service providers a run for their money.
