Former Kakamega senator Cleophas Malala has decried harassment by the state. Former Kakamega senator Cleophas Malala (in blue track jacket) claimed his residence in Kitengela was raided on Monday evening, September 13. He claimed his home in Kitengela, Kajiado county, was raided by unnamed people who drove away with his son and a brother-in-law aged 19. Malala published CCTV footage captured late evening of Monday, September 23, showing a vehicle used by the abductors driving into the compound.  Earlier, Malala had opened up about the harrowing ordeal the forgoing duo went through after being abducted at gunpoint.

He sent a distressing post to his social media platforms late Tuesday, September 24. Were Malala’s kin freed? The politician claimed the two were subjected to hours of torture as their abductors demanded information on his whereabouts. He further explained that after their captors failed to locate him or his wife, they abandoned the two along Thika Road. The outspoken politician stated that, fortunately, he was able to retrieve them, disclosing the emotional damage the ordeal had done to them. How Malala’s stint in UDA faced challenges Malala became the UDA secretary general in February 2023, a year after flunking the Kakamega gubernatorial vote.

He took over from Veronica Maina, who was nominated to the Senate. His stint would, however, face opposition from party members who seemed to disregard his rule. Outspoken Nyeri governor Mutahi Kahiga led UDA members who argued that Malala was not substantively installed as the party’s secretary general; he, therefore, could not sanction critical commands. A petition to remove him from the position was filed in June this year. In August, he was ousted from UDA’s top brass in a resolution realised in an executive meeting chaired by Embu governor Cecily Mbarire, who is the outfit’s national chairperson. Vice-chair Hassan Omar was named the interim secretary general. Malala is currently aligned with Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, who is facing tribulations at the hands of President William Ruto’s handlers.
