The former Ruaraka OCS Nahashon Mutua has broken his silence about his experience behind bars more than four years since a Nairobi court sentenced him to death. Nahashon Mutua narrated his life in prison. Mutua, who was found guilty of the murder of a man who had been held at the police station, maintained his innocence, claiming the case was not adequately investigated.In an interview with Inooro TV, Mutua reminisced about his time in the police force, maintaining he was a diligent officer who rose through the ranks to become an Officer Commanding Station (OCS). He admitted he threw many in jail during his five-year-tenure as the Ruaraka OCS, adding he was only doing his job.
“As an OCS at the Ruaraka Police Station, I am the one who signed the charge sheet for every suspect. Some of them are still in prison, and some we even met. They are many, and I would also not say that God is now avenging for them with my imprisonment, I followed due process,” he insisted. The former senior police officer claimed his case was retaliation by people he had fought hard due to their criminal activities. “As an OCS, I was firm in my fight against crime in Ruaraka, and the case was turned against me by people whose work I was against,” he said. Nahashon Mutua’s experience in jail Nahashon said he still hopes that he will one day be vindicated despite his death sentence.
In jail, he teaches Chemistry to his fellow inmates. “I always hope that I will one day be free. However, if that does not happen, I will still positively impact the other inmates. I am an honest man, and I remain upbeat. “To my family, I greet them all. They know I am here, and they believe in my innocence. I urge them to continue being steadfast,” he said. Nahashon Mutua’s death sentence Mutua was sentenced to death for tortuing and killing a suspect inside a cell in 2013. The deceased suspect Martin Koome had been arrested after a domestic brawl only to die in the police cell. Mutua allegedly assauted Koome with a metal rod and had his head immersed in a drum of water. While handing out the sentence, Justice Martha Mutuku said the evidence pointed towards the former OCS.
