From left: DP Rigathi Gachagua, Dennis Itumbi and Kikuyu MP Kimani Ichung’wah |
National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah has continued criticising Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua. . Speaking on Spice FM, the Kikuyu MP highlighted some of the reasons why Mt Kenya MPs fell out with Gachagua. Why Gachagua assaulted Dennis Itumbi In one incident, Ichung’wah shared details of how the deputy president allegedly assaulted Dennis Itumbi, the Head of Creative Economy and Special Projects in the Office of the President. Ichung’wah claimed Gachagua grabbed Itumbi by his collar at a state lodge and threatened him for allegedly refusing to tweet what the DP expected him to.
“I don’t know what you would say of a person holding a higher state office, walks into a meeting at state lodge, grabs by the collar a junior officer by the name of Dennis Itumbi, threatening him with physical assault within the precincts of State Lodge on the basis that someone who had no defined role until recently, is not tweeting the things you want him to tweet,” Ichung’wah said on Tuesday, September 17. Ichung’wah, who described the deputy president as vindictive and petty, went on to give more examples of incidents where Gachagua allegedly reacted emotionally once people stopped dancing to his tune.
“Why would you, if you hold high office, be so petty and vindictive with leaders because they are not kneeling before you and hailing you as a king and the greatest of all? Why would you, for instance, be belittling your own member of parliament and telling the whole world how much dowry you paid at his wedding?” he posed. According to the majority leader, Gachagua’s character changed the moment he was sworn in as the deputy president. “Give a man power and money, then his true character shows up. And I guess that is what has happened. When people got power, they got access to state resources, then their true characters came out,” he stated.
