Kenyans have caused an outrage online after the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) claimed no pupils are missing following the fire at Hillside Endarasha Academy. The Directorate of Criminal Investigations suggested that all pupils from the Hillside Endarasha Academy fire have been accounted for. What did DCI say about Endarasha fire? In a press statement obtained by TUKO.co.ke, the DCI said the school had 164 boarding boys, but eight had not returned after school reopened. This means that at the time of the tragic incident, 156 boys were in the dormitory. “It has been verified that all 166 girls are safe with their parents. Similarly, 140 boys safety with their parents has been verified.
Two of the five boys who were admitted succumbed to their injuries. 19 bodies have been recovered from the dormitory bringing the total number of deaths to 21,” the statement read in part. The DCI added that DNA samples have been collected from families, and the process of matching them to the bodies burned beyond recognition is underway. “Meanwhile the investigation team is working round the clock, recording statements from persons of interest, marking a significant progress in this inquiry,” DCI added.
How did Kenyans react to DCI statement? Kenyans took to social media to question the DCI on the whereabouts of the children that were reported missing by the parents. Sancho: “Stop lying, where are our children?” Dan Akala: “So where are the rest, some parents are saying their DNAs aren’t matching with the bodies at morgue.” Faith Wambua: “Why are so many parents crying about missing children.” Mwaura: “There’s no country here.” Trosses: “Is it true that some students are missing?” Imaan Wanja: “Where is Brandon Kinuthia?” Ashoiya Jotham: “Find kids.”
