Hildah Lumati decided to get engaged to her husband after remaining a virgin for 27 years. She made this decision after a friend introduced her to a man who later became her husband.
The two had studied at the same university and even came from the same neighbourhood.
During an interview with Dr. Ofweneke, Lumati expressed pride in herself and admired her journey before marriage.
She was happy that she didn’t engage in any toxic relationships prior. She felt content after finding the right person and appreciated the way she was approached.
“My husband courted me with the Bible. I think at that time, he had a good relationship with God; he even took me to church,” she said.
During her time on campus, she had attempted dating, but it didn’t end well because the person she was with was not patient with her decision to remain a virgin until marriage.
“He was patient until he couldn’t be patient anymore, so that made me walk out of the relationship. If a man comes my way and starts talking about sex before marriage, that man is not my husband,” she explained.
After graduating from university, Hildah decided to work on her self-awareness to get to know herself better.
She started dating after her long-time friend became intentional about being with her. He decided to make a move on her during her birthday, which she agreed to.
“As women, we tend to imagine that we are in a relationship until a man tells you, ‘Can you be my girlfriend?’ That really helped me. He took me out a day after my birthday and asked me if I could be his girlfriend.”
She later offered advice to single people, claiming that discipline begins before marriage. This, she said, helps in maintaining a relationship and building strong affection for each other and self-respect.
