Outspoken political activist Kasmuel McOure had difficulty convincing a woman working at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) to put down her tools. Kasmuel Mcoure opposed the JKIA-Adani deal. What did Kasmuel Mcoure tell JKIA worker? Kasmuel joined airport workers at the JKIA protesting against plans to lease the airport to India’s Adani Group for 30 years. On Wednesday, September 11, airport staff staged a protest against the proposed Adani takeover, disrupting international and local travel. The workers argued that the deal would result in job losses and questioned the fine print of the proposed agreement.
Kasmuel posted a video of himself walking around the airport while deconstructing the proposal. He was adamant that it would not pass. “We are here to occupy the airport. Adani has to go; they cannot take over JKIA. If they thought they saw demonstrations, they have not seen anything,” he said. Kasmuel then noticed a woman cleaning and stopped to talk to her. “Madam, you should not be working,” Oure said. “Where will I get goro goro (maize flour)?” the woman asked. Oure told her that the Adani deal would take away her job, and she would have no means to earn a living. However, the woman was adamant that she had to work to eat.
