Mohammed Abduba Dida, a former Kenyan presidential aspirant, is in prison in the United States. Mohammed Abduba Dida was jailed in the US.  Dida is serving a seven-year sentence after being convicted. 

1. When did Abduba Dida become famous? Dida burst into the limelight in the 2013 presidential election. The teacher announced his intention to run for the country’s top seat. Dida garnered 52,848 votes in the presidential election, representing 0.43% of the total votes.

2. How many times did Abduba Dida vie for president? Despite losing the 2013 election, Dida also vied for the presidency in 2017. However, he got less votes in his second bid. Dida had 38,004 votes, 0.25% of the total votes. 

3. Which subjects did Abduba Dida teach? Dida was a religion and English teacher. He taught at the prestigious Lenana School in Nairobi. Dida also worked at the Daadab Secondary School.

5. What crime did Abduba Dida commit? Dida got a two-year sentence after being found guilty of stalking and transmitting threats. The second charge, aggravated stalking and violating a restraining order, earned him seven years behind bars.  Both charges emanated from incidents that happened in McLean County, Illinois. 

6. Why did Abduba Dida complain about prison conditions? Dida filed a civil rights suit against the Big Muddy Correctional Center, citing violations of his religious rights. He accused prison officials of impeding his ability to practice his religion. Dida said the prison failed to accommodate his daily prayer and did not provide adequate provisions during the Islamic holy month of Ramadan. 

7. When will Abduba Dida leave prison? According to prison records, Dida was incarcerated in November 2022. He will be eligible for parole in 2025. A full discharge is scheduled for April 2029.
