Residents of Lichota-Suna West Sub-county, express gratitude to the Kenya Wildlife Services for capturing a hyena that has been causing them sleepless nights.
This comes after several attempts by the KWS to trap the wild hyena that has been feeding on their cattle, goat and sheep.
Since July, this year, the KWS has been setting traps in the Lichota area since July this year after to residents’ complaints about wild animal presence and the Hyena invasion.
Stephen Kaunda, a resident, disclosed that the presence of Hyenas in the area had caused them sleepless nights that forced them to watch over their flocks.
The residents praised KWS’s efforts in capturing the notorious Hyena, particularly as schools reopened for the third term.
“Our young students attend school early in the morning, and the presence of a roaming hyena could have been dangerous and unsafe.” said Kaunda.
However, Migori County has set a plan and allocated a budget to fence-off the Lichota forest, to deter the encroachment of wild animals such as hyenas into residential areas.
