Activist Eric Omondi has threatened to initiate a referendum process to collect votes from Kenyans with the aim of amending certain political positions.

Speaking at a local news station on Friday, Omondi stated that Kenyans are overrepresented and there is a need to reduce or eliminate some political positions.

The activist mentioned that some of the changes they will focus on include reducing the number of counties from 47 to 8, abolishing the positions of senators and women representatives, among other reforms.

“We are going to start a referendum process, led by Eric Omondi, to eliminate all 47 counties and reduce them to 8 regions, like in the past. We are going to completely remove senators, women representatives, nominated MPs, and even MCAs should be careful because I haven’t seen their work,” Omondi said.

He added that many politicians have failed to fulfill the purpose of devolution, which was to bring services closer to the ordinary citizen, and instead, they have brought corruption from the central government down to the counties.

“The goal was to bring essential services closer to the ordinary citizen, but they have brought corruption. MCA’s aren’t doing their job, and the public is confused because they don’t know which leader is responsible for what development. Kenyans are overrepresented—by the president, governor, senator, women representative, MP, MCA… how do they all represent one person?” Omondi questioned.
