Rachel Keziah, also known as DJ Kezz, transitioned from secular to gospel music in 2020, becoming the first Seventh-day Adventist (SDA) DJ.

Initially, she faced significant resistance to her new path. Speaking to Oga Obinna on his YouTube show, she shared, “First, it’s fought before it is embraced because people are scared of change.”

At 17, she was excommunicated from her church for being pregnant, which led her to the club scene in defiance.

She stayed away from church for six years. “I don’t want to get too much into it, but it was an unfortunate incident — my first time going clubbing, I got drugs, was assaulted, and ended up pregnant. I didn’t tell anybody. I was going to parties to take photos, came into contact with deejaying, and loved it. I said I couldn’t do gospel. For almost six years, I didn’t set foot in a church.”

DJ Kezz is a single parent raising her daughter. “I’ve raised her on my own. Her father tried to reach out, but I felt there was no way that was going to happen. All is forgiven, though. It’s just the reality of life.”

She wears a purity ring and remains celibate. “It means no sex until marriage.” When asked how long she has been celibate, she replied, “I’d rather not say. I do want to get married and have a husband in the future. I’m just not playing around until I find someone.”

She has encountered men who don’t share her beliefs. “If you can’t do it, it’s okay. Mostly, I’m the one who leaves. If I tell you I am not doing this until marriage and you say you can’t, I won’t keep you there. You could stay with me and then cheat.”

DJ Kezz plans to date for nearly two years before considering marriage.
