Why Kenyans criticised athlete statue in Eldoret The county government unveiled several statues as part of beautification ahead of the unveiling of Eldoret as a city. They had erected one of the monuments at the Fims junction, that of an athlete whose resemblance could not be identified. However, the statue caused a lot of public uproar as Kenyans questioned the workmanship of the sculptor. A section of Kenyans wondered why the county could not have produced a fine piece, given that Eldoret town is the home of hundreds of well-known veterans and current record-breaking athletes. However, a spot-check by TUKO.co.ke shows that the contractor removed the statue, and it is not clear if a new one will be erected. Another monument of a green maize crop that had been erected on the Telecom roundabout was also replaced.
