A family is heartbroken after learning painful news about their loved one who went abroad while searching for greener pastures. Davis Sarbabi (l) seeking to bring back the body of his sister Agnes Sarbabi (r) from Lebanon. Davis Sarbabi, brother to Agnes Sarbabi, was brokenhearted after the death of his sibling, who died in Lebanon. When did Agnes Sarbabi go to Lebanon? The young man said his sibling travelled to the Middle East to look for work and support her family. Speaking to TUKO.co.ke, Davis opened up about his sister’s hardworking personality, which is traced back to years before she went to Lebanon. “She first went to Qatar, where she worked for two years and came back. She then went to Bahrain, worked for two years, and returned home. Now, she had gone to Lebanon. She went in 2022, and if she were alive today, she would be completing her two-year contract there,” the grieving man said. Why did Agnes run away? Davis said his sister’s cause of death was yet to be confirmed despite having some information about it. He said according to the information he received, Agnes died of a gas explosion in the house where she worked. “There were some girls she stayed with after she ran away from her employer. She said there was an issue between her and her Lebanese boss, so she ran away. She found comfort in some girls she stayed with. They were the ones who told us that there was a fire incident that led to our kin’s death,” the Narok man said. Davis said he had been in contact with a man who was helping them repatriate the body of Agnes back to Kenya. The man in Lebanon, acting as a consul, was to help the family with the repatriation process, among other steps needed, before receiving the body in Kenya. “The man to help us told us we would pay him KSh 325,000 to KSh 455,000 for the repatriation. However, he later shifted and asked for KSh 780,000. We had saved some money after Agnes’s death for the preparation and burial. We had raised KSh 500,000,” he recalled. At first, Davis sent him KSh 130,000, but the man in Lebanon threatened not to help them anymore as they had sent extremely little money. How much did Davis send second time? They stopped communicating for a few days, but Davis and his family reached out to the man, who stood his ground and said he wanted more money.  “We later sent him KSh 302,000. A few days later, I received a message that the money had been withdrawn. He had KSh 432,000 in total. After withdrawing, he went silent, and we do not know if he is already working on sending the body to Kenya or not. We are stranded. We sent him every coin we had contributed for the burial and repatriation,” he cried. Davis noted that despite being told by the girls who worked with his sister what happened to him, he asked for an autopsy from the man they sent the money to. They did not receive any official letter from the hospital but sent pictures of their deceased, who was covered. Did Agnes Sarbabi have kids? “From the pictures, and the information we received from our kin’s colleagues, the cause of her death seems believable, though it seemed she had also been abused and acid was poured on her,” he said. Agnes has left behind two children, one in Grade 4 and another in Form One, who are under the care of their grandmother. The two young girls were emotional following the news of their mother’s death, who had raised them singlehandedly after she separated with her partner years ago. “They stopped going to school to heal after the death of their mother, which has destabilised them. My mum is also low because she depended on her daughter, who is no more,” he said.
