According to Talam, the ceremony will take place on Tuesday, July 9 at 9am. The new law will allow the appointment of new IEBC commissioners since the previous commissioner resigned and others retired after the disputed 2022 presidential elections. The new law was a result of the National Dialogue Committee Report (NADCO) agreement. The president has invited various leaders, including those in the opposition, to the historic occasion. Ruto has been under pressure to sign the IEBC bill into law amid calls by Gen Z to recall MPs who voted for the controversial Finance Bill 2024.
