Rebecca Miano Responds after Claims of Asking Ruto to Withdraw Her Nomination for AG Post

Rebecca Miano has dismissed rumours that she has rejected her nomination by the president

President William Ruto's nominee for the Attorney General post, Rebecca Miano, has dismissed as rumours the reports that she has turned down the nomination. Former Trade and Industry CS Rebecca Miano was nominated for the position of Attorney General.  Did Rebecca Miano reject Ruto's appointment? Some quarters had earlier claimed that Miano requested to step down from the position, asking for "lighter duties" instead. In a tweet, Miano flagged the reports as rumours; she, however, did not shed more light on the standing of her nomination. "When rumour mills are rolling, the well-advised stay still," Miano posted on X. Miano's nomination as the next Attorney General became of concern to Kenyans on Tuesday, July 23, after her name was left off the list of the Cabinet nominees referred to the National Assembly for vetting. Speaker Moses Wetang'ula acknowledged receiving the list from Ruto, with notable changes in it since the announcement of the new Cabinet on July 19. Apart from Miano being left out, former Defence CS Aden Duale, who had been recalled to the docket, was moved to the Environment and Forestry Ministry, previously held by Soipan Tuya, who moved to Defence. The president appointed the first batch of his new team comprising 11 members on July 19, a week after firing his entire Cabinet. Who are the new Kenyan Cabinet nominees? Six individuals from the dissolved Cabinet were brought back to the corridors of power. In addition to Duale and Tuya, Kithure Kindiki was brought back to the Interior Ministry, Alice Wahome returned to Lands and Public Works while Davis Chirchir moved to the Roads and Transport docket. Miano, as earlier hinted, returned as the proposed Attorney General, replacing Justin Muturi. The new figures proposed in the Cabinet are Debra Mulongo Barasa, who was nominated into the Health docket, Julius Ogamba (Education), Andrew Karanja (Agriculture and Livestock Development), Eric Muriithi (Water) and Margaret Ndungu (ICT). The National Assembly Committee on Appointment will vet the nominees before the House debates on their suitability to occupy their respective dockets.
