Newly Married Mlolongo Man Shot Dead while Rushing to Check on Ailing Wife

Monica Mwandikwa seeks justice for  her son who was shot when going to check on his sick wife

A family in Itungali village, Mwingi Central, is demanding justice after their kin was shot dead during the anti-government protests. Monica Mwandikwa said her son was not taking part in protests. What did Sammy Mwandikwa's mother say? Monica Mwandikwa is trying to come to terms with the death of her only son, Sammy Mwandikwa, who was shot at Mlolongo on Tuesday, July 16. Speaking to Citizen TV, the family said Sammy was shot dead while rushing home to take care of his ailing wife, whom he married three months ago. Monica disclosed that Sammy had secured a job in Nairobi and had worked less than a month before he met his death. She said Sammy was shot a few metres from his house moments after dropping his boss at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA). “He was my only son and after finishing school, he went to look for a job less than a month ago. Then this Tuesday night, I was called by his wife who informed me that he had not returned to the house. We kept calling his phone but it went unanswered," Monica said. Why Mlolongo family blames the government Sammy's mother-in-law, Eunice Peter, blamed the government for being behind the death of his son-in-law, whom she said they had a lot of hopes for.  She appeals to the government to take action on the police officers responsible and also compensate all families who have lost their loved ones during the protests “I loved him so much and they had gotten married less than three months ago. We continue mourning as a family. It was not our hope for him to die but to live long as we had hopes and aspirations. I know the government killed him so I want them to compensate so that we’ll continue remembering him,” Eunice said.
