Photos of Immaculate carrying a wooden baton in the Nairobi Central Business District (CBD) have gone viral online. Nairobi Protests: Young Woman Goes Viral for Carrying Baton to Protect CBD Business  The images showed her scuttling across the streets wielding the weapon with the ferocity of a tiger. Immaculate was among the Gen Z protestors seeking to push the government to address issues such as debt, taxation, unemployment, and alleged corruption within the Kenya Kwanza regime. Why was Immaculate carrying weapon? In an interview with journalist John Allan Namu, she disclosed that she was in the CBD as a peaceful protestor. However, she picked up a baton to protect people and businesses from goons allegedly sent to turn the protest chaotic. "Things have changed because goons have been sent, and they are stealing from people," she lamented. She, therefore, chose to join the group dealing with the vandals and then continue with the protest. Immaculate praised on social media Mrs. Nancy Macharia: "Good work. Why take advantage of these peaceful protests to steal and destroy other people's properties, surely?" Julie Kelly: "This is the kind of courage we women should have." Timothy Mutunga: "Good work. We should work together to ensure no goons destroy or steal as demos are on." What you need to know: Anti-government protests entered the third week, with the demonstrators vowing to continue occupying the streets every Tuesday and Thursday. This is against the backdrop of President William Ruto proposing a meeting with Gen Z to discuss the country's future. The initial demonstrations were instigated by Parliament passing the Finance Bill 2024, which sought to increase taxes on most commodities.
