IG Douglas Kanja Warns Kenyans Against Protests in Protected Areas Ahead of Occupy JKIA Demos

 

The National Police Service issues a warning to protesters
 
The National Police Service has issued a warning to protesters ahead of another round of anti-government protests. In a statement on Monday, July 22, Acting Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja stated the police would respect protesters' right to demonstrate under Article 37 of the Constitution However, the police boss reminded the protesters of the provisions of the law on venturing into protected areas. "In light of the demonstrations planned for July 23, 2024, it is critical to firmly remind the public of the legal boundaries that govern access to protected areas," read the statement by Kanja. The warning comes amid fears that Gen Z protesters could make real their threat and storm the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport.
