Azimio Senator Says Plot to Impeach Gachagua Will Fail in Parliament: "No Reasonable Grounds"

Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua (l) is accused of undermining his boss President William Ruto (r).

Senator Dan Maanzo says the chances of success of the move to impeach Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua are minimal.  The Makueni senator said there were no viable constitutional grounds to have the deputy president ousted from office.  He observed that Gachagua had not shown any unbecoming conduct to warrant his ouster, adding that the supposed scheme could be because of the deputy president's outspoken character.  The senator added that the impeachment motion would fail owing to the new dawn of the majority of lawmakers who have developed a disinterest in taking instructions from outside Parliament. Therefore there will be no quorum to actualise the move. "None will fly. The deputy president has only exercised freedom of speech and reported what the people are saying; therefore, none of these grounds can stand. Despite a very serious effort to impeach him, they will miss the two-thirds with a few numbers. There are many reasonable MPs who have begun to become independent now. Parliament has begun to rescue itself from the grip of the state house," he said. Should it go through, then it would be political machinations plotted earlier against Gachagua, Maanzo said. "If there would be any impeachment against Gachagua, then it would be a political onslaught which I believe will largely fail in the House,"
