6 Politicians, 2 NGOs on Govt Radar for Allegedly Funding Violent Protests

Anti-government protests continue to witness massive destruction of properties in various parts of the country. Detectives believe the anti-government protests are funded by politicians. Detectives now believe the widespread demonstrations are not organic but funded by key figures in the country. How many politicians are from Nairobi? Nation reported that detectives have listed six prominent politicians, two Non Governmental Organisations (NGOs), and a businessman as sponsors of the violent demonstrations. According to the intelligence report, three of the politicians are from Nairobi county, two from Mt Kenya region and one from Rift Valley. The listed individuals, including a businessman from Rift Valley, are suspected of financing the now three-week-old anti-tax protests. In which ways have politicians been fueling protests? According to detectives, the alleged financiers have been providing logistical support to the demonstrators, including transport to the epicentres of the protests, like the central business districts of major cities. A Nairobi politician is accused of mobilising and hiring goons from Kibera, Mathare and Babadogo areas to infiltrate and turn violent the protests by largely peaceful and unarmed demonstrators. Another politician from Nairobi is said to have held a series of night meetings to plan for the demonstrations, according to the intelligence brief that has been shared with top security chiefs in Nairobi. Why is DCI looking for masked protesters? The Directorate of Criminal Investigations deployed teams to apprehend individuals captured engaging in violent criminal activities during the previous demonstrations. Masked as protesters, unruly youths raided several business premises, looting property valued at thousands of dollars. Detectives are optimistic about arresting and prosecuting the suspected perpetrators.
