19 Migori County employees resign over fake academic papers

Office of the Governor ,Migori County

Nineteen county government employees who are part of a group of 93 implicated in possessing fraudulent academic credentials have resigned.

According to Migori county secretary, Osca Olima, the employees opted to resign rather than waiting for further action from the Migori county government and relevant authorities.

Olima stated that out of the 93 individuals involved, 25 have written to the county public service board seeking an opportunity to present their side of the story.

He confirmed that the board has granted them a chance to defend themselves before any further decisions are made.

The county secretary further stated that investigations are underway to weed out employees with questionable academic certificates as part of efforts to ongoing crackdown on fake documents.

Olima said that the exercise is not a witch hunt but rather informed by the audit findings from the Human Resource Audit Institute in 2023 and the county government’s staff headcount report.

He noted that the Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC) verified the fraudulent primary and secondary school certificates among the county’s 2,700 employees.

The county secretary revealed that the 93 employees with forged academic credentials have been removed from the payroll even as they await further action by the county public service board.
