High Court Judge, Justice David Majanja has died while undergoing treatment at a Nairobi Hospital.
While announcing his passing on the X handle, Chief Justice, Martha Koome mourned Justice Majanja as a towering figure in the development of the transformative post-2010 jurisprudence and a crucial pillar in the institution-building of the JSC and the Judiciary.
“On behalf of the Judiciary and the Judicial Service Commission, it is with profound sadness that I announce the sudden passing of Justice David Amilcar Shikomera Majanja, Judge of the High Court of Kenya and Commissioner of the Judicial Service Commission. We are all heartbroken.“ CJ Koome said.
Adding that: “We stand in solidarity with the family, friends, and the entire Judiciary and JSC community during this very difficult period of mourning.“
She called for sensitivity and compassion during this period as the family as well as the Judiciary comes to terms with the loss of Justice Majanja.
On her X handle, the President of the Law Society of Kenya, Faith Odhiambo eulogised Justice Majanja as one of the fine minds on the bench.
“His studious contributions to our country’s Jurisprudence and commitment to uphold standards of excellence in Judicial service formed a remarkable legacy for which he will be fondly remembered and greatly missed.” mourned Odhiambo.
Majanja was appointed Judge of the High Court in 2011 and served at Homa Bay, Migori, Kisumu and Kisii High Courts.
He also served at the Commercial and Tax Divisions and Milimani High Court Civil Division.
Majanja was also the Lead Judge in the three judge bench appointed by Chief Justice Martha Koome alongside Christine Meoli and Lawrence Mugambi during the Finance Act Petition.
