Anti finance bill protests
A video showed a police officer in distress upon seeing angry protesters opposed to the Finance Bill 2024 approaching him. Protesters were heard telling the police officer to run to church so God could forgive him for his sins (Photo for illustration).  What exactly did the police officer do? The video captured a uniformed police officer, without a firearm, seeking refuge at the Holy Family Basilica Church as protesters approached him. One protester was heard sarcastically urging the officer to hurry into the church so that God could forgive him for his sins.  Those present at the church premises urged the officer to seek safety as the approaching protesters drew nearer. "Run to the front of the church...Just be safe...just be safe," people were heard telling the officer. Other men, appearing to be church congregants, were heard admonishing the protesters not to resort to violence within the church. "You can't come in here, this is a church," one man is heard telling protesters." Outside the church, individuals were heard shouting slogans against the Finance Bill 2024, accompanied by the sounds of gunfire. How did netizens react to the video? The video sparked mised reactions among netizens with some condemning his act of seeking refuge in the church. Dr. Muyoka: "The irony of hiding in the church after committing the sin of murder." Stage Sassari ventures: "He was escorted to a confession." Kelvin K: "Why is he running?" I am Maroa: "Bana the kind of enemity developing btn the police and the people is not something to laugh about." Money monitor: "Churches have become a den of criminals." mBensoni: "They will always run to church for safety." Police officer's brother shot dead in anti-tax protests Earlier, TUKO.co.ke reported that a police officer was visibly emotional after his brother, who had taken part in the Anti-Finance Bill protests, was shot dead. In a widely circulated online video, the officer was depicted lying beside his younger brother, draped in Kenya's flag, crying inconsolably while other protesters sang the National Anthem. In another video, the officer is observed showing grief, raising his hand and pledging to resign and return his uniform following his brother's death.
