The vehicle was reportedly coming from Nairobi while the police officer was inspecting another vehicle at a roadblock along the highway. The officer, who was still lying on the road, writhing in pain, recounted that the vehicle approached him at high speed.  He stated that he attempted to run away from the road, but the car was moving too fast and ran over his leg. " I had stopped a car that I was inspecting on this roadblock. Upon greeting the driver, a speeding vehicle approached from Nairobi. I didn't know what to do," he said. A large crowd had gathered around the officer, attempting to figure out how to assist him, while others applied pressure to his foot in order to prevent further bleeding. The driver who committed the offense is yet to be found and arrested.
