The divide within the Kenya Kwanza government is deepening as a group of parliament members is pressing President William Ruto to address allegations of misconduct involving his deputy, Rigathi Gachagua. In anticipation of the Finance Bill 2024 debate, Ruto announced a crisis meeting on Tuesday morning, June 18 with all Kenya Kwanza MPs, where expectations are high for decisive leadership. This comes after a section of MPs criticised the deputy president for allegedly fostering tribalism through his "one-man, one-shilling" equity campaign. "It is about time he realigns himself with our vision of one Kenya one country. It is wrong to undermine a region based on how they voted especially when it comes from the deputy president who is the second in command. He is a politician and understands that he has gone astray. I believe he will not take offence," said the majority whip, Sylvanus Osoro, as Citizen TV reported. They have also accused him of occasionally absenting himself from official events, including welcoming ceremonies after foreign trips by his boss. Meanwhile, the deputy president has called on Kenyans to support him in speaking the truth, asserting that his efforts are aimed at uniting the people of Mt Kenya amidst opposition.
