The 29-year-old died was among the many protesters who had taken to the streets to reject the Finance Bill 2024. How cop shot Rex Masai The shooting happened after the group of protesters had been pushed by police from parts of Kenyatta Avenue, City Hall Way and other places they had gathered to air their opposition to the bill when they gathered outside Moi Avenue. They started dancing to music from a club along Moi Avenue moments before the police dispersed them. From the CCTV footage, a cop in a cap, plain clothes and white sneakers emerged and started shooting at the group while dispersing them. Rex was hit in the leg and fell on the road, crying for help. He was rushed to Bliss Hospital on Moi Avenue, where he was pronounced dead while being attended to. Babu Owino's heartfelt condolences Meanwhile, Embakasi East Member of Parliament (MP) Babu Owino took to social media to mourn Rex Kanyike Masai. The vocal politician shared a photo of Masai's national identification card online. Babu wondered how ironic it was that the 29-year-old died at the hands of a police officer.
