Police Officer Attacked by Ian Njoroge Recently Lost His Mother-In-Law, Uncle: "Niko Na Matanga"

Man who beat up a police officer
Corporal Jacob Ogendo has opened up about his life struggles following his assault by Ian Njoroge. Ian Njoroge (pictured) was arraigned on Tuesday, June 5, after allegedly beating Corporal Jacob Ogendo.  During a phone conversation with former Nairobi governor Mike Sonko, the injured police officer revealed that he was feeling pain in his back and ears. Ogendo disclosed that he recently lost close family members, stating that his mother-in-law, uncle and cousin are now deceased.  "Honourable, I have pain in my back and ears; if I had some money, I would go and rest, but I don’t have any money. I am dealing with mourning as my mother-in-law passed away, my cousin also passed away, and my uncle passed away," he said. Ogendo expressed his gratitude to the former county boss for helping him pay for some of his medical expenses following the Sunday, June 2 beating by Njoroge. "Yesterday, I was grateful that you helped me buy medicine and get an X-ray of my head. I had the X-ray done at Mama Lucy Hospital. God bless you for your help," he added. Why is Ogendo not taking off days The police officer said he was planning to take some time off to allow things to cool down following the much-publicised incident.  However, Ogendo lamented that it would be counter-productive for him to take off days on an empty hand. "If I had money, I would go somewhere to rest. I wanted to take some time off, but how can I go without anything? Empty-handed, really. If I had something, I would go and rest for even a week to get away from people's eyes," he told Sonko. Njoroge was molested, claims his defence team Meanwhile, his defence attorneys told the court that the student's rights were infringed at the police station after his arrest. According to the lawyers, the clip of unidentified police officers interrogating him in a dark room was evidence of the torture he went through. As per the clip, the officers uttered profanities and ordered Njoroge to repeat after them.
