A ranking officer at the National Intelligence Service (NIS) is reported to have harmed himself to death using his assigned rifle. Tom Mboya's body was booked into Lee Funeral Home after he was found dead at his home (image for illustration purposes). Fifty-four-year-old Tom Mboya had checked into his home where he lived with his nephew on Monday, June 3. He would not be seen thereafter. How did NIS director die in Kilimani? On Tuesday, June 4, the deceased's nephew, Francis Oduor, sought his whereabouts after he could not be spotted within his vast house, even upstairs, where he slept. He then enquired with the female domestic help and the watchman, both of whom denied seeing his uncle, before getting his body lying inside the servant quarter. Oduor informed his kin, who in turn contacted the police. On showing up at the scene, the officers established that Mboya opened fire at himself with a pistol. He was said to have been battling depression. "He shot himself using a pistol on the right side of the head, which exited on his left side...At the scene, Glock 19 pistol s/no kg 589, was recovered with 1 spent cartridge and a magazine loaded with 3 rounds. In his bedroom, another spare magazine was recovered loaded with 13 rounds," partly read a police report seen by TUKO.co.ke.  Also recovered from the scene was a note; the body was ferried to Lee Funeral Home as detectives opened the inquest file. Elsewhere, a policewoman was found dead inside her house in Bungoma. Cop murdered in Bungoma Tiffany Wanyonyi, a police constable, was allegedly hacked to death by her husband, 40-year-old Jackson Oloitele. The 30-year-old police officer attached to Kiwanja Police Post in Kahawa West had travelled upcountry for her grandmother's funeral. She was reported to have got into an argument before he allegedly descended on her with a sharp object. According to Wanyonyi's colleagues, the argument between her and her husband escalated into a fatal attack that shocked their neighbours. Her body was found lying on her bed with deep cuts on the neck and several injuries to the head. A panga suspected to have been used during the heinous attack was also retrieved from the scene.
