Monument to honor 14 people of Marsabit plane crash to be constructed

Marsabit county government has pledged to provide 5 acres of land for the construction of a monument to honor 14 people among them 6 legislators who died in a plane crash in the region 18 years ago while on a peace building mission.
This was revealed during a visit to the county by the National Heroes Council and members of the National Assembly Committee on Sports and Culture.
The visit was aimed at engaging the county government to identify a suitable location for the establishment of a monument in honor of the 14 people who died while on a mission to bring peace among two warring communities.
The National Assembly sports and culture committee led by Turkana North MP Ekwom Nabuin pledged to lobby for more resources to be allocated to the national heroes’ council to fulfill their mandate.
A section of MP’s also proposed the establishment of a special fund to cater for the next of kin of some of the fallen men and women who are honored posthumously for their service to humanity and country.
The legislators pledged to table a motion in parliament to push for the establishment of the kitty.
The 2006 plane crash in Marsabit claimed the life of 14 people after the plane crashed into a hill owing to heavy fog and burst into flames as it was approaching the airstrip.
